Mandarin is a vital part of the global curriculum studied at GLA. China marks the tenth frontier for our scholars. Applying their learned skills, scholars will step out of the classroom and into an immersive experience by way of culture and language.

 

NASSAU & FREEPORT, BAHAMAS

After trekking across the contiguous United States, eighth grade scholars travel onward to the Bahamas. Taking a deeper dive into the African diaspora, scholars solidify their understanding of where they come from, who they are, and who they can be in the world.

 

Ontario, CANADA

Let freedom ring! Starting in the founding city of the United States, 7th grade scholars travel along the Underground Railroad towards freedom. Some of the most memorable moments include visiting historical landmarks, passing through the National Underground Railroad Museum in Ohio, taking class with their Canadian pen pals, and splashing around Niagara Falls.

THE AMERICAN SOUTH (ATLANTA, BIRMINGHAM, MEMPHIS)

Throughout the year sixth graders learn about human, civil, and gender rights culminating in a pilgrimage to the American South. During this invaluable trip scholars visit hallowed ground including the Lorraine Hotel, 16th Street Baptist, Edmund Pettus Bridge, and the Martin Luther King Junior National Historic Site. In addition scholars are given their first taste of college life through tours at the University of Memphis, Spelman College, Clark Atlanta University and Morehouse College.

WASHINGTON, DC

By the dawn’s early light, fifth grade scholars travel to the Nation’s capital to further their understanding of the American political system. By doing so, scholars gain a greater pride in their own country while also gaining a worldly perspective on global politics and communities.
